The World Upside Down (Downside Up?)

Palomar Designs in Italy gives us Odnom (Mondo [Italian for “world”] spelled backwards). The globe is mounted on a mirrored base so that the southern hemisphere can be easily viewed, in an attempt to break the cultural hegemony of the northern hemisphere. Even the labels are printed upside down in the southern half so that they are perfectly legible in the base.

Why not a globe with it’s axis on the horizontal (poles to the left and right), or would that encourage equatorial bias?
